Mt Etna
View of the top of Mt Etna from the bus.True story: local guy pulls into the parking lot, backs his car up to the hill and empties his trunk of bowling ball size lava rocks! In the U.S., we would have been arrested if we were to borrow the lava rocks! We did borrow several golfball-size chunks of lava and we fully intend to return them when we join Rick Steves' "Villages of Sicily" tour (when they offer it!).
Tommaso warned us to wear warm clothes and once we left the bus, and headed for the Silvestri crater we knew why! | The battle line between organic and inorganic. The rich nutrients from the volcano make Sicily very fertile. With two gardeners in our family, it is easy to accumulate lots of pictures of plants. Especially when many of the plants that we have as small indoor potted plants are growing to huge dimensions outdoors in Sicily! Tommaso said that every square inch of Sicily seems to be cultivated.
